He has extensive experience in leadership positions in both banking and Rotary International. He has served Rotary as the District 5730 Governor in 2011-2012 and appointed by the President of Rotary International served as Rotary Coordinator in 2013-2016 for Zones 21b and Zone 27. These Zones include 22 Rotary Districts in the states of Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas.
The thing David is proudest of as a Rotary Coordinator is he and other highly motivated and dedicated Rotarians successful reversed a 15 year declining trend in membership for the Districts referred to above.
A Rotarian since 1983, David has served as a Rotary Club president twice and as an assistant governor for three years. His banking duties with Happy State Bank took him to Arizona for a few years and he served as Rotary District 5510 Membership Chair. Other involvement and activities include Rotary Youth Exchange, hosting Group Study Exchange Teams, and Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp Director. In 2010, David traveled to India to help Rotarians there vaccinate children against Polio.
Polio eradication has been Rotary’s signature project since 1985 when polio cases number 360,000 per year. Rotary’s work has eliminated polio to two endemic countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan where only a few cases have been reported recently. India has been polio free since 2012.
Rotary has been for David, and can be for anyone else that so chooses to be the best leadership development training ground anywhere and that says a lot coming from an old Marine officer.
In 2016, David was received Rotary’s Service Above Self Award, the highest award given in the world of Rotary. Rotary is 1.3 million Rotarians in 34,000 Rotary Clubs in over 260 countries and geographic regions around the world. Only 128 Rotarians were awarded the Service Above Self award in 2016.
